I am learning to add and subtract with ten as one of the numbers.

"I was learning to make ten.  It was hard for me.  It was easy to draw the dots. I like doing take aways, and I want to do more of that.  The Squares group and Mrs Wyatt help me to do my Maths."

I am learning to retell what I have read.

"I have learnt to say what happens in the story.  I can say what happens at the beginning, middle and the end. I can point to the words, and sound them out.  Long words are hard to read.  Mrs Wyatt helps me with my reading."

"I was tired when we had to do star jumps, and run around and over things. I was proud of carefully going over the ladder.  I did not touch the sides."

I am learning to write words with vowels as the middle sound.

"I was writing a Funny Sentence.  I was learning words with 'e' in the middle.  It was hard to write the words correctly.  I felt happy when I finished writing it.  Mrs Wyatt helped me learn these words."

Learning: “I learnt how to draw patterns.”   “I learnt to not put too much dye on the cotton bud.”.  “I learnt about tapa from Samoa, Tonga and the Cook Islands.”

Tricky: “Drawing some patterns was tricky.”  “The dying – had to be very careful.” “Keeping the vivid on the pencil lines.”

Proud: “The dye looked beautiful and I was proud of that.”   “I was proud of my patterns.”

Help: “I needed help to dye some parts of the panels, drawing over the pencil lines with vivid, putting the right cotton bud in the right container, knowing about different patterns.”

Next: “I want to learn more patterns.”   “I want to know more about the Cook Islands, Tonga and tapa.”  “I want to use vivids more in the classroom.”  “I want to learn more about drawing.”

I am learning to read as I write to make sure my writing makes sense.

"I am good at drawing pictures for my writing.  I am good at sounding out the words, and I am good at writing lots of sentences. I find spelling the big words tricky.  Mrs Wyatt helps me with my writing."

I am learning to identify a sentence, for eg, the beginning with capitals and the end with full stops.
